It’s a safe assumption that, without angel investors, many tech startups wouldn’t have happened. Sure, Peter Thiel was a sidenote of a character in “The Social Network,” but his real life contribution was much more significant, no? And yet, it would seem, that the very same group of venture capitalists who made social media happen have been among the most reluctant to embrace it for themselves.
As an item in GigaOm points out, just now a VC-focused start-up social network site has started to gain traction among these investors.
The site, AngelList, a curated network that helps connect angel investors with their eager, pleading counterparts in the start-up sector. But it’s only been in the last 18 months that the site has taken off. Today it has 2,300 registered investors and upwards of 10,000 companies, according to GigaOm’s tally.
